Simon Crowe, drummer of the Boomtown Rats, had a BMW R90/6. He did all his own work though he had been an architectural student before drumming. He was born in Dublin and now lives in the West Country where he works as an architect. He also has his own band, Jiggerypipery, which is described as Celtic Rock. He has recently joined up with old bandmate Garry Roberts, also a biker. They go out as "Boomtown Rats Garry Roberts and Simon Crowe" doing all the old hits from that time. See: http://www.rockartistmanagement.com/page/boomtown_rats

It was probably this connection that brought Bob Geldof and Paula Yates into the showroom one day, which caused quite a stir. They were living nearby in Clapham at the time.

Update Jan 2010: Email from Simon

Hi , Just read my bio on your site - all very interesting and thanks for the mention! Just to fill you in if interested...

I still have my bike but haven't used it in a while. I keep it in a shed and threaten to either try and sell or get it back on the road again - can't quite decide. (What's a bike like that worth these days?) It's still all in good nick but needs a few little things sorted.

It's true, I did all my own maintenance as far as I could but used to hire those special tools from GK. Easy as I lived in Herne Hill at the time. Must say, having GK near was great as I was always needing the odd part or two. A guy called Steve Smith used to serve me - he did keep in touch until a few years ago but I haven't heard from him in a while. Also a guy called Mike who was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Regards, Simon Crowe
